Do we really understand what Jesus did on the cross? Any who have seen the movie "The Passion of the Christ" might have a clearer image of the suffering. But do we really get it? Can we comprehend the freedom - the life - that He gave us?
The old covenant required strict adherence to the law, and the punishments were harsh. Like many, I would not be alive if God commanded the stoning of certain lawbreakers! The new covenant in Jesus Christ shines mercy and grace on those who deserve only death, which in truth is every man.
Lord, Your mercy is astounding. When I read of the punishment that I am due, my heart is sick. The enemy wants me to believe that death is my future. But Your action changed my future. Your mercy gives me life. Help me to walk in Your strength. Thank You for blessing us with Your Holy Spirit.
