"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as far as me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:14-15
Joshua made a choice. He and his household were going to serve the Lord. He could not choose for the entire community. The decision was theirs, and Joshua seemed content to simply say, "You make the choice. Pick one or the other, but make a choice."
We can't pick both.
No matter what we think, we cannot have our cake and eat it, too. It's either the One True God or the gods of this world. The One True God is jealous, and He doesn't like sharing us.
Lord, forgive me for not serving You. When I choose the gods of my forefathers, I am not choosing You. Help me to choose you each day. Help me to choose you this day.
